Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program session and The Gavel Club (a year-round public speaking and leadership program for middle school and high school students)

About Midji

As a mother, wife, accountant, and educator, I have proudly called Union City home for 27 years. I hold a Master’s degree in Accounting and Financial Management, and with 15 years of experience running my own consulting business, I am deeply invested and focused on promoting the success of our diverse community.

Growing up in a family that owned a small shop, I learned the basics of business and the importance of understanding the "chain reaction in life." This experience taught me to see the bigger picture and develop critical thinking skills.

Later in my roles as a board member for local nonprofit organizations in the past eight years, overseeing youth and education committees, including as Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program (TYLP) Coordinator and a teacher at my church’s Youth Program, have shown me the transformative power of career and life skills-based education. I’ve seen firsthand how these programs can positively impact students, making them more confident, grounded, and academically motivated.

I’ve always believed that we can empower our youth by offering more hands-on, career-focused education, such as entrepreneurship, various trades, engineering, health sciences, and leadership skills.

Why you should vote for Midji

As your School Board Trustee - Area 1, I will:

  1. Expand existing career skills-based education as a part of high school extra credit to graduate and build a coalition with the local community and businesses to make this happen.

  2. Empower students with career skills-based education. We want our high school graduates to be well-versed in various career skills, such as trades, engineering, or health science combined with business/entrepreneurship knowledge. These programs can serve as powerful motivators, helping students see the direct connection between their academic efforts and future career opportunities. See below on more information on CTE or Career Technical Education.

  3. Emphasize Core Skills such as reading, writing, math, and life skills-based education (critical thinking, and leadership skills)

I love working with people and look forward to working with other Trustees, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians.

Let’s work together, I need your help, support, and especially your vote on November 5, 2024.
